Holy Friday or Good Friday. In the Christian tradition, we honor this day as the day Jesus allowed Himself to be sacrificed as atonement for our sins. Having been captured in the night, He was abandoned, rejected, beaten, mocked, ridiculed, scorned, spat upon, and despised by His friends and by those who hated and feared Him. And then, because He promised to do so, He carried our humaness, our frailty, our sins on His back. Our humaness, frailty and sins being symbolized by the heavy, unyielding, wooden cross He carried down the crowded, cobbled streets of Jerusalem. (John 18 & 19). The weight of our human frailty is too much for us to bear, but because He loved and loves us, He bore it for us. I am both humbled and inspired by His sacrifice. Today, remember that you are loved, honored, cherished, and forgiven. He believes in you; believe also in others. Remembering to love, forgive, encourage, and believe in one another, you honor Him and this Holy Friday, and you bring love and joy, peace and patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and gentleness to yourself, your family, your friends, and to the world.
